• The delirious sight of Meryl Streep leading a river of multigenerational women singing Dancing Queen is one of the high points of Mamma Mia!, the musical built around the songs of the hugely popular pop group ABBA. The plot sets in motion when Sophie (Amanda Seyfried, Mean Girls), daughter of Donna (Streep), sends a letter to three men, inviting them to her wedding--because after reading her mother s diary, she suspects that one of them is her father. When all three arrive at the Greek island where Donna runs a hotel, Donna flips out and finds that passions she thought she d laid aside are coming back to life. But let s face it, the plot is not the point--it s a ridiculous contrivance that provides an excuse for the characters to sing the massive hits of ABBA. Regrettably, first-time film director Phyllida Lloyd (who directed the original stage production) has drawn over-the-top performances from everyone involved, even Streep, every production number hammers its exuberance into your eyeballs. Which is too bad, because Mamma Mia! is a rarity: A middle-aged love story. The kids start things off, but the story is really about Streep and the three guys (former James Bond Pierce Brosnan, former Mr. Darcy Colin Firth, and Swedish star Stellan Skarsgard), as well as Donna s best friends (Christine Baranski, best known from the TV show Cybill, and Julie Walters, Calendar Girls). It s a romantic comedy aimed at the people who were around when all these songs were new, and that s an age group Hollywood largely ignores. For that alone, Mamma Mia! deserves to find an audience. --Bret Fetzer

• fantastic film!. i saw this film 3 times in the cinema because it was soooo fantastic!! when i saw it for the first time,and saw the scene that merrill streep is singing the song Slipping Through My Fingers, i missed my mum. so i took her to go to see it. the film is set in a beautiful greek island, and it is absolutely wonderful!! Amanda Seyfried is a lovely girl and perfect with her mum. the songs of ABBA reminds me my childhood because my dad recommended me to listen when i started to study english in my junior high school. it makes me feel nostalgic! and i didnt know that colin Firth has such a good voice! iv never seen him singing a song so it was a suprise for me. Meryl Streep and Julie Walters has a good partnership, and they makes people laugh! it is highly recommended!
• Most enjoyable. Enjoyed this so much that I bought second copy to send to my daughter in France who also loved the film.
• excellent entertainment. My wife had seen the live show in Toronto several years ago and we got the video for us to enjoy - if there was a 6* rating available this would be our rating.
• excelent. the product arrived just on time with no delays and the condition is perfect. i would recommend it if you love mamma mia!
• Awful Disastorous and Terrible wish I could have spent all the time in the foyer.. This was awful from the start of the credits to the end of the credits I just wanted to crawl up and hide under my seat. Talk about mouldy cheese and then some. The stage show was a real smash but why do they think they can make films of all the stage shows. By far the worst 2 scenes are the water fountain breaking through the cliff at the end and the awful Lone Wolf comment with Julie Walters and lets not forget the almost vomitting end credits. I have still not forgiven the wife in taking me to see this film.
