    • Fun but a little tame. I used to love the old Mortal Kombat games on Sega Megadrive back in way back when - they were lots of fun (especially in 2 player) and decidedly gory which I must say shoudn t be out of place in a fighting game. This newest MK game with updated graphics and the great addition of DC characters almost lives up to it s predecessors. Don t get me wrong it s lots of fun - has some great special moves, the combo training is a good section, the addition of the falling fights, upclose fights and bashing each other through walls and scenery is particularly satisfying and does make you feel you re controlling characters in a movie. BUT, and it is a capitilised BUT, it is still fairly linear and comparatively small game which one could expect in the days of the megadrive but not now with PS3s and Xbox360s (compared to other modern games like Half Life 2, GTA4 etc.). I mean why couldn t they have more characters or you get learn more moves as you progress through the game?

The arcade mode is as normal, the story mode is the arcade mode but with moving cutscenes and WHY WHY WHY haven t the bosses (Shao Kahn and Darkseid) got any fatalities????!!!! That was the same with the old versions and I could never understand why they didn t have them then - surely they re the biggest baddest characters so why don t they have the biggest baddest fatalities. Speaking of fatalities and Heroic Brutalities (the DC characters version) - what happened to all the gore? They re lame!! Ok so the characters costumes get a bit torn and their faces a bit bruised but what happened to the slicing in half and head exploding meaness of the old games?? If it was to tone down the violence so it wouldn t get a rating so they can make more money then they should have gotten rid of the blood all together (it is still pretty violent with it).

Anyway on the whole - quite a lot of fun and reasonably hard to keep you going for a while and keep you coming back for more, graphics are pretty good (I can t really comment properly on graphics as my tv is only standard definition) but not sufficiently expanded as much as I d hoped.
    • Just fun. If you start the game with the same ideas i had this game is actually quite fun. I borrowed this from a mate and booted up the game thinking this will be another bad game in the series which sadly is getting worse. After playing mortal combat deadly alliance the mortal combat games have gone on a steap decline and have unwrapped any chance that mk de created in making mk next gen. This has now changed with the new mk game and has made it a fun switch your mind off sort of game.

There are 5 diffrent game modes. Story mode which actually has a story line in it compared with the likes of tekkan and street fighter. The original arcade mode like every fighter game. online as you would espect. versus mode for when friends are round and finaly kombat mode which is a series of challenges.

Too be brief the fighting isnt all that hard and compared to street fighter 4 its the standered button masher. Story mode although short is better then most fighting games, instead of just giving you fight after fight and a nice graphic scene at the end it actually has some very simple deph and although cheesy very fun. To sum up its the sort of game you rent or buy cheap but is very fun. I would give this 5 stars but like me those of you especting the usual ovr the top gore will be dissapointed. It would seem midway swapped that for a comic licence and a teen rating. 4.5/5 very fun with friends.
    • Much better than I expected. After borrowing this from a mate I wasn t sure quite what to expect. After being a fan of the original MK I was familiar with many of the MK character s moves which was a nice touch as it has that sense of familiarity. I was a bit concerned with the overpowering of superman and GL but they ve dealt with that well.

The Story mode is by far the highlight of the game, even if the story is a little bit convoluted. A nice touch is how the two perspectives link together so well.

After playing SF4 and then this I d highly recommend getting this instead. The controls were much easier to handle and obviously the fatalities are still great, even if the violence has been toned down to suit the DC character s ethics. What I liked about this over SF4 is that this is a challenge but still beatable whereas Seth in SF4 is simply impossible. Be warned however that the Kombat challenges is not for the casual player like me as it requires perfect accuracy and timing for the moves.

Still, it was highly enjoyable to play
    • THE BEST FIGHTING GAME EVER. WHAT A GAME...SPEANT MANY O NIGHT PLAYING ONLINE TILL 5 IN MORNING PLAYING ONLINE.EASY ENOUGH GAME ON STORY MODE BUT GOOD 2 COMPLETE FEW TIMES 2 GET BOTH BOSES AND GET IN PRACTICE FOR ONLINE WHERE THE ACTION IS...........HAPPY PLAYING
    • Almost there. I bought this game today and played it for a few hours. My first impressions are that the graphics are good but could be better, not much of a step up from PS2 but still a step up. The variety of characters are good from both the DC and MK side. I haven t played online yet so can t comment on that yet. The only downside to this game I can see (Purely in my own opinion) is that the fatalities/brutalities have been very toned down compared to earlier MK games. I m assuming this is to keep the age rating down? I would recommend buying this game for two player mode as it can get very competitive with friends and the story mode keeps you interested between fights.
