I Hear with My Little Ear: And 101 Other Phonic Games
Customer Ratings: - Amazing Variety. I am usually fairly sceptical of 101 something or others feeling you only get about 25 with shades of difference but this book truly has variety and the author certainly knows how to appeal to her audience. Kids love playing the games and, as the introduction makes clear, the teaching principles have a sound basis. I would recommend it to any primary school teacher.
- An inspiring time saver!!. I ordered this book because I felt that I had exhausted my supply of phonics games and that my Reception class would benefit from some new approaches, and they certainly did! This book has 102 phonics games, each with ideas for differentiation depending on the ability of the group and/or individuals. There is a concise but really informative introduction about the process of learning phonics and a selection of photocopiable resources (picture card, word cards, templates etc) in the back. Some ideas were old classics but there were loads that I would never have dreamt up on my own but that the children adored and really gained a lot from. Another thing that I loved about it was, that as well as suggesting the games they included a suitable list of words to use, for example, words ending in a specific sound and include pictures of them in the back. A real time saver!
