• A Slow Burner. After thinking that Cold Granite was a good, if slightly predictable, crime thriller I decided to go ahead and order the second in the DS McRea series - Dying Light.
  
  In this second outing for DS McRea there are three interweaving and brutal series of crimes to follow. The second outing, unlike the first, is a slow burner. In the first half of the book there isn t really much that happens. It s all saved for the second half of the book where it truly does turn into the clichéd page turner.
  
  Additionally, unlike Cold Granite, where you knew who the killer was after the first half of the book, Dying Light offers an extra bit of interest as I wasn t able to figure out the whodunit of each of the three cases until the very end.
  
  Overall, this is better than Cold Granite. Though you don t really get any greater insight into any of the characters and it does take a while to get going. However, once it does this book will keep you gripped and in suspense until the very end. Recommended.

• sjt. I have only just discovered stuart macbride having read all the rankin books ,i thought this book was an excellent cant put down read and look forward to reading more from the author.
• Book review. Great so far. Excellent follow on from the first book. Would highly recommend these books
• Boring. I wish I had taken more notice of the one and two star reviews. I was taken in by the five stars! I could not connect with any of the characters even after 120 pages. The story was boring and depressing. Everyone seems to be rude and crass and to hate what they re doing. I gave up and will give the book away...if anyone wants to read it! I won t bother with this author again.
