Tuote Kuvaus: - Shredder 11 - Many-Time World Computer Chess ChampionNo other program in the past years was able to win as many world championship titles as Shredder. The new version, Shredder 11, is stronger than any previous version, with its performance improved by about 100 Elo points. This was achieved by implementing more effecient search techniques and a new evaluation function which delivers more realistic assessments. Shredder still likes to go on the attack, but is not as speculative as previous versions. The evaluation of passed pawns has also been greatly improved. All of this leads to more reliable and realistic results during your analysis with the computer. A completely new feature is the Opening Advisor, which allows Shredder to handle opening lines much better without the help of an openings book.
Asiakaspalvelu Ratings: - Simple but brilliant, not for beginners. I ve been using Shredder for a few months now, and I must say I m very happy with it.
Shredder is an extremely powerful chess-playing engine - one of the very best (quite possibly the best at blitz chess). It tends to be better positionally than many of the other engines - less tactical and more strategic in its play. It handles closed positions better than most programs, for example.
It is, however, a bit of a no thrills package. Unlike some other software (Fritz, Chessmaster) it doesn t come with a vast collection of 3D boards, oodles of training material and access to an online chess server.
Instead, it provides a simple, intelligently layed-out interface that is ideal for analysis and serious play. There are plenty of options for tweaking the way the engine plays (e.g. changing how much it values having a bishop pair). Used carefully, this provides a similar effect to the Chessmaster personalities , albeit that a bit more thought and effort is required.
The analysis features are also good - it has a histogram feature whereby it iteratively works through each move in a game and evaluates the position, taking longer and longer for each sweep until it is stopped. This is presented in the form a graph which can show you the exact point where you blundered and lost the game.
Shredder can limit its game down to about 850 Elo, which is low enough for adult beginners, but not (most) 5-year-olds. The beginner player might be looking for something a bit more colourful, and with more in the way of training features. However, for the serious player (including beginners who want a straightforward way of finding out what the right move is in a given position), Shredder is excellent.
