Broken Skin

Customer Ratings:

  • Stuart MacBride book. I was recommended this book by someone at work because it s based in Aberdeen where I live. I have to say it was the type of story that I had to keep reading until it was finished
  • Don t trust footballers!. Great story. Local star striker is also local serial rapist. Will the!*^! up squad catch him? You bet they will one way or another.
Stuart McBride is getting to be one of the formost names in crime writting.
  • Good, but a dip in form from his previous books. I have read and thoroughly enjoyed the author s first two novels - Cold Granite and Dying Light. Overall I enjoyed this one, but nowhere near as much.

The story drags quite a bit in the second half of the book. The main storyline follows two crime investigations, both of which are taking time to solve, which the book tries to reflect by introducing other cases, some of which provide leads for the main cases. However, it is overdone and just seems as if the book is going off at tangents and marking time before getting to the end-game.

Having said that, the end is good (and worth waiting for) and the humour of the previous books is still there. Also, I am probably being over-critical because I enjoyed the previous books so much.

I already have the next book and I am looking forward to reading it (after I ve read some others though).

I would recommend that anyone who is working through this series should read this one, it is not the best in the series but still a decent enough book and better than many others I have read. But don t buy this as your first Stuart MacBride book. Apart from anything else you will miss a lot if you read them out of sequence, so start with Cold Granite.
  • Loved it!. Was given Cold Granite for Christmas and promptly bought Dying Light and Broken Skin. Loved all three books and have just ordered Flesh House.. DI Steel s chat really makes me laugh - she s a riot! And you ve just got to feel for Logan. Though of course v. grim subject matter in all books..brill.
  • beware. please note this book, marketed as Bloodshot, is actually Broken Skin by another name. I have just purchased it having already bought and read Broken Skin( which was fine) am now returning my spare copy.Bloodshot (Logan McRae)
