Broken Skin
Beurteilungen der Kreditwürdigkeit eines Kunden: - 2nd hand book but good as new. I was a little apprehensive about buying a 2nd hand book online. Especially as it was advertised for such a bargain price. I m pleased to say that I m really happy with my purchase. The book arrived earlier than expected (within a couple of days) and looks almost new. I would have no reservations about buying another 2nd hand book from Amazon.
As for the story itself, I haven t read it yet so I can t comment. If it s anything like Cold Granite I m sure it ll be a great read. - Scots farce- good fun. This reminded me of a French farce where characters come in and out rather like through revolving doors. We have a story with an Aberdeen footballer accused of serial rape, an 8 year old killer, a speight of stolen goods, and a body from what seems to be an S&M scene gone to far. DS McRae through lots of incredulous luck manages to link them all and continue as hero. I enjoyed reading this, the plot is fun, but it does seem too unbelievable. The characters are great and I enjoy the humour played through both DI Steel and DI Insch, but I would prefer a more gripping crime thriller.
- Beware. This book is the same as Dying Light It has been given a different title for the US market If you already own Dying Light by Stuart MacBride do not buy this one
- Broken Skin. Another cracking crime thriller from Macbride with the usual colourful, foulmouthed characters, vile crimes and ribald black humour, you never quite know how seriously to take these novels, but there s no doubt to my mind that they are fantastic entertainment value. This one is about a serial rapist and the death of a porn star involved in S and M, so there are two main crimes running throughout the tale and also a few other ones thrown in too. Insch and Steel still give the best value laughs wise, but the character Rickards gives a bit of unintentional (or is it?) comedic value, though I had to feel a lot of sympathy for him. Macbride is fast becoming a favourite of mine and I heartily recommend any of his books.
- Not bad, but not the best book in this series. Broken Skin is the third book in the DS Logan McCrae series. In this one, McCrae, Steel and Insch are investigating two cases. In the main case a serial rapist is on the lose in Aberdeen, and evidence is pointing towards Aberdeen Football Club s star player, Rob McIntyre, as being the culprit. In the other case, a body is dumped outside an Aberdeen hospital, and it looks like an excerise in bondage went seriously wrong!
As with the other books in this series, I found the story to be a reasonably good read. The dialogue between the main protagonists is believeable and at times very witty. The main case was the more interesting of the two, I felt, and the book does jump from one case to the other quite a bit! I thought ruined the flow of the overall story, somewhat. As a result, I would say this book is not the best in the series, but it s not bad, and worth a read.
